CIO Update - February 2016

Since the return from the holiday break, the ITS team, as well as all faculty and staff have been focused on ensuring a successful start of the Spring semester for our new and returning students. And now that we have successfully launched the 16 and 14 week Spring semester sessions, we can redirect our attention on our other strategic initiatives.

Under the guidance and direction of Dr. Alex Johnson, 2016 will be the most transformational year in the history of Cuyahoga Community College. And much of the transformation is centered on technology.

In the past weeks, the College unveiled WebEx, its new conferencing system which replaced Meeting Place Express. WebEx is a state-of-the-art conferencing tool used to communicate via audio, video, chat, and document sharing. It is currently available to all faculty and staff with a plan for student use in the next few months.

ITS is focused on many high visibility, high touch projects including “One Record” as part of the One Door initiative. In February, Hyland Software will host a “first reveal” of the new tool which will allow faculty and staff a single view into a student’s academic progress to not only ensure that the student is on a pathway towards success and completion, but to also improve the student service experience.

Hyland Software is also working with the College to automate and streamline the currently manual “Petition to Graduate” process. Working closely with the Registrar’s office, this new tool will automate the petition process using an electronic form, workflows and the OnBase document management system.

ITS is also working closely with a number of areas throughout the College on projects that are transformational in their own right, such as a new online course catalog and curriculum tool from Courseleaf, a new “year-long” course schedule, a new single application for College admission, and upgrades to the College’s Banner ERP system.

Our ERP team is working diligently to deliver enhancements to the Ellucian Banner system that will improve the academic experience for all students, faculty and staff. In the coming days and weeks you will be hearing much more about the new tools: DegreeWorks, Recruiter, Student Profile, Faculty Grading, Attendance Tracking and much more.

In the months to come we will all be a part of this exciting transformation.  Stay tuned for updates on these and many more projects.
